Emiko
Aida is an acomplished painter and printmaker. The Weekend
Gallery has shown her beautiful etchings on a regular basis,
but this is our first exhibition of her paintings. She revisits
many of the themes found in her printmaking - urban settings,
water and rain, but in these canvases she allows the her firtation
with the sureal to take filght. She was born in Jindajii,
Tokyo, a town with a Japanese temple dedicated to the Water
God. Water is worshipped there, and growing up, Emiko was
surrounded by wetlands, streams and rivers. Living now in
a London the watery world she has created in her etchings
and paintings is a place where she feels at home. She finds
water to be the element she most strongly connects to both
spiritually and emotionally.
Sarah
Cox is a well established ceramist. Her animals and birds
have and appealing whimsy. They are resolved in form and surface
and appear to have an irridiense in their colouring. Her inspiration
is drawn from her love of the natural beauty of the earth.
Her extensive travels diving amongst the world's most breathtaking
waters can be seen in her inimitable style of creating sea
anenomes and fish from the ocean, and her love of the flora
and fauna of the world.
