Browse Database Index by Artist Name Monotype Monotypes are different from monoprints in that there are no permanent features to the printing plate. Although monoprints are made unique by the way in which the artist applies or removes ink, the plate will usually allow subsequent similar works to be made, because of its set features. A monotype image is articulated purely through the manipulation of ink on the plate. The final work may be the result of one unique inking or the building of layers. This is the most painterly of printmaking techniques creating unique works.
